Crochet Pattern: Raven



“Why is a raven like a writing desk?” a Mad Hatter once asked. I haven’t the slightest idea either, but what I do know is that you can now make this awesome raven yourself with this very clear and easy to follow crochet pattern. ^^


The raven will become quite large when made with a 4.0mm crochet needle, the one in the pictures is about 9” / 22cm tall.

Needed materials to make this pattern:

  • crochet hook, size G (6) / 4.0mm
  • yarn type: light worsted weight / DK
  • yarn colours: black (about 500yd/450m), yellow (less than 2yd/1.8m), light grey (140yd/125m), dark grey (110yd/100m)
  • tapestry needle
  • optional but handy: sewing pins
  • fiberfill for stuffing

Needed skills to make this pattern:

  • magic ring
  • chain stitches
  • slip stitches
  • single crochet
  • double crochet
  • half double crochet
  • increasing and decreasing
  • basic sewing skills
  • crochet on the bottom of the foundation chain

Overall skill level: advanced beginner.

Size of finished item:
When made with the described yarn and hook size, the
raven will become approx. 9”/22,5cm tall and
5”/12,5cm wide, with a wingspan of 25.2”/63cm.
